Lesson 13 Strengths-Based Team Review

Culture is defined as “how we do things around here.”  This next exercise is to think about “how” your team does things to support you, each other, and your organisation’s performance.

In their research, Gallup identified five tactics that help support the creation the workings of a strengths-based team.  These are

  • Common Purpose: Ensuring all team members understand and are aligned with the team’s mission and objectives.

  • Connection: Fostering strong relationships within the team and with other parts of the organisation to enhance collaboration and cohesion.

  • Communication: Establishing clear and effective channels for information sharing to ensure everyone is informed and engaged.

  • Collaboration: Encouraging teamwork by leveraging individual strengths to achieve collective goals.

  • Celebration: Recognising and celebrating both individual and team achievements to boost morale and reinforce positive behaviours.

What Does Your Team Need to Work Better Together?

  1. Go to Page 21 of your Black Workbook.  Select one of the 5 tactics.  To do this read through the check list of questions and tick those items you think your team does.  Based on the above assessment identify one area you would like to focus on

  2. Based on this tactic, complete the reflection at the bottom of the page

    1. What is one thing this team is doing that is working?

    2. What is one thing this team is doing that is getting us stuck?

    3. Based on the first two questions, what is one strength of yours that you could leverage to help address where we are getting stuck?

    4. Based on leveraging this strength, what could we do differently?

  3. Shares the results with your team leader, manager, colleague, or with your team as a discussion.
