Lesson 3 The drivers and steps to create a development plan


When creating a development plan, there are two sets of inputs to consider

Component 1 Understand your traits, talents, loves, aspirations. The thing unique to you and unlikely to change (or need to!)

Component 2 Create velocity by applying it through an accountable action plan

Beneath each of these components is a series of actions.  The remainder of the course will focus on these 6 steps

You will find these steps on Page 5 of your Black Workbook, and they are

  1. Understand the core motivators When and how we will focus our development

  2. Identify where to develop Increase our inputs to develop clear and actionable outputs

  3. Determine priority focus We can do anything, but we can’t do everything.  Where is our biggest opportunity?

  4. Create actions and accountability

  5. Leverage Strengths Our natural ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving that increase our chances of success

  6. Check In and Review How do we move beyond form filling to part of how we do things at work
