Lesson 12 What We Learn

“A goal properly set is halfway reached.”
Zig Ziglar

A good model for helping us understand what actions to take to support our development goals is the 70, 20 ,10 learning model.  This model helps us break down where the learning actions happen and states that people obtain:

  • 70% of their knowledge from job-related experiences (experiencing the consequences of our decisions is the best teacher)

  • 20% from interactions with others, like co-workers and managers.  Read the following blog post for how to approach mentoring

  • 10% from formal learning events.  The model is designed to shift our focus from training to performance and a more holistic approach to learning.
