Lesson 14 We Are the Culture

Activity Watch A video of a 1970s lecture from Viktor Frankl the author of Man’s Search for Meaning and a WWII concentration camp survivor (hence the poor video quality).  Note as he talks about “crabbing” and think about this metaphor could apply to an organisations Mission, Vision, and Values

Gallup research has found the challenge is only 27% strongly agree they believe in their company's values, and 23% of employees strongly agree they can apply them to their work every day.

Activity

If available review your organisation’s values and go to Page 23 of your Black Workbook

  1. Identify a value that you could be most challenged by.  If there are no values, based on your experience and the values exercise from the values sort in Lesson 11, choose one of the values from the full list that you think best expresses what is important in the place where you work.  You can access the list of values here.

  2. Which of your top 5 Strengths do you think could support this value?  Refer to Page 9 of your White Workbook, the report My Signature Themes I Bring, I Need Report, and the column I Bring

  3. Based on the strengths theme definitions select phrases that best support this organisational value

  4. Think of a story where you have seen this value come to life with the team where you work

  5. Find online, write down/describe, or draw an image that you think best describe this value

  6. What is one action you can take to ensure this value is reflected in your work

  7. Share this with your manager in your next 1-1, or when you have the Setting Expectations conversation with them
