Lesson 5 Introducing the Check-In Template

For the rest of this module, we will be completing the  Check In Template.  It is designed to structure the conversation, and address the challenges covered in the previous lessons outlining the need for change;

  • Move from a task list to a coaching conversation

  • Reduce the reactive and increase the time spent on intentional work

  • Catch people doing things right

  • When things get “wobbly” catch them early

  • Giving clarity of the right coaching style to deploy based on the task and skill of the person

  • Align back to the expectations that have been set both HOWs (behaviours) and WHATs (priorities).  Note the HOWs, the behaviours, always precede and support the delivery of the WHATs, the deliverables.

Note Individual contributors manage the Check-In meeting.  This is their meeting not yours. If you have direct reports, they should be responsible for cheduling, completing the template, preparing the discussion points, and leading the agenda. As a leader, your role is to provide guidance and coaching.
