Lesson 14 The Best Development Is Everyday
Ongoing development keeps employees caring about their work. If someone feels like they are learning and growing, disengagement disappears. Development is also a nudge not a leap. James Clear in his Book Atomic Habits shares that the Goldilocks Rule states peak motivation is experienced when people are working right on the edge of their current abilities. Not too hard, not too easy, just right. To achieve a state of flow a task must be roughly 4% beyond your current ability.
That’s why development as a topic is baked into each of the 5 coaching conversations and sections specifically included in Setting Expectations, Development Plan and Progress Review coaching templates.
