The Power of Questions: Unlocking an Exceptional Employee Experience

In a presentation on employee experience, the team from HumanKind presented the following three insights below.

What I have learnt as a coach, it’s not just about knowing what they are—it’s about bringing them to life. And the best way to do that? Start asking the right questions.  That’s where the magic happens.  As French philosopher Eugène Ionesco says “It’s the question that enlightens, not the answer.”

  1. What is expected of me? Clarity around what they have to do in their role and how they will be measured (with SMARTER goals). As a manager ask, What do you expect of me? What do you think I expect of you?

  2. How am I doing? Regular feedback that is constructive & enables them to understand where they are doing well & where they can improve. As a manager ask, What’s working? Where are we getting stuck? What can we do differently?

  3. How can I learn and grow?  Based on the feedback, how can we help them to develop to be their best self? As a manager ask, Is there a particular skill or area you would like to learn?
